Batter Up! Young Activists host Slowpitch Tournament June 6-7 in Sundre

The Young Activists Committee is encouraging all AUPE members to shed
the memory of winter be registering for the slowpitch ball tournament
taking place June 6-7 in Sundre.
"This isn't just a ball tournament for young activists, it's a ball
tournament and summer social event that's open to everyone in our
union and their families and friends. The young activists committee is
making it happen." explained Jason Heistad, AUPE Vice-President and
committee chair.
A cabaret will be held on the Saturday evening, including
entertainment, a cash bar and an evening snack.
"This year we also have the arena rented in case of rain. If the ball
game gets called off because of the weather we can go inside and play
soccer, t-ball, bunnock and more," said Heistad.
Registration is $150 per team with a miminimum of eight players per
mixed squad. Each team must have at least four AUPE members and/or
staff.
As well, teams that have a minimum of five "Young Activists" (AUPE
members 30 years old and under) on their rosters will be entered into
a special prize draw.
Teams will also be responsible for providing their own equipment,
including bats, balls, helmets, gloves and a catcher's mask.
Proceeds from the ball tournament will be donated to a local agency
that provides nutritious snacks to school children in Sundre.
Registration forms must be completed and submitted with payment to
AUPE Headquarters, c/o Bill Dechant, by May 15, 2009.
A list of Sundre's camping facilities and motels/hotels is available
