Congradulation Mona, your Campaign was a success!

Good morning everyone.

I'm very excited to share the final results of the AUPE Provincial Blood Drive. AUPE Members, friends and family donated a total of 214 donations - which will help save or improve up to 642 lives! On behalf of everyone at Canadian Blood Services, I'd like to extend my sincere thanks to each of you for helping to organize and promote the blood drive. We are very grateful for your support. It will make a big difference to hospital patients in need.
Thank you again for all your help, and please don't hesitate to call me at 403-410-2733 with any questions.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR PHOTO SERIES

Hi folks
please consider below if it interests you!
sis Bates

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR PHOTO SERIES

The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees is looking for members to
represent the work that they do on film. The new photo series, which is
planned in conjunction with the redesign of the AUPE website, will show the
breadth of work that AUPE's members do, in line with the "Another Day" ad
campaign.

Based on a 2007 list of job categories, AUPE is specifically looking for
volunteers from the following fields:

. Provincial Employees
o Administrative Support Worker
o Court Reporter
o Scientific Officer
. Health Care
o Licensed Practical Nurse
o Therapy Aide
o Home Care Aide
. Education
o Library Technician
o Mailroom Clerk
o Groundskeeper
. Boards and Agencies
o Research Officer
o Receptionist
o Agriculture Officer/Agrologist
. All Sectors
o Tradespeople

While AUPE is interested in volunteers in these categories, we are also
interested in hearing from people in other job categories that feel their
work would make for a great photo.

Those interested in volunteering for the photo series should contact Vanessa
Bjerreskov at 780 930 5202 or v.bjerreskov@aupe.org. Please be aware that,
based on the number of volunteers, not everyone who volunteers may be able
to be photographed for the series.

STOP THE CUTS RALLY - NOVEMBER 7, 2009

Hi Folks:
Please if you can find the time come to the following Rally below, this is enough and we have to let the government know we mean business.
Thanks
Sis Bates

AUPE President asks members and concerned citizens from across Alberta to take part in "Stop the Cuts" rally Nov. 7, 2009

AUPE President Guy Smith is encouraging members from every sector of the union and the public at large to take part in the "Stop the Cuts" rally at the Progressive Conservative Convention in Red Deer on November 7.

"It's time for all of us who are affected by cuts to public services to be seen and heard by the decision-makers in this province, and there's no better opportunity than the PC Convention in November," said Smith.

AUPE's Save Alberta Hospital Edmonton campaign will bring a significant presence to the rally, but Smith is asking anyone that is concerned about cuts to public services to bring their personal message to the rally.

The union has arranged buses in Edmonton and Calgary to provide transportation to and from the rally for anyone who wishes to attend, whether they are AUPE members or not.

The buses will leave at 9:30 a.m. and return by 4:00 p.m. Members will be picked up and dropped off at AUPE headquarters in Edmonton (10451 –170 Street) and near McMahon Stadium in Calgary (1833 Crowchild Trail).

The rally will begin with a gathering at the Kinsmen Community Hall (4726 – 34 Street) in Red Deer at 11:30 a.m. then participants will take part in a short march to the Progressive Conservative Convention at the Capri Centre.

Anyone who would like to take a bus from Calgary or Edmonton is asked to RSVP by phoning AUPE headquarters at one of the following numbers:

780-930-3300 or toll-free at 1-800-232-7284 (Press 1)

Blood Donations Needed!!

Hello Folks:
Please if you can donate,  Ramona Price from our Local has done a tremendous amount of work to get this campaign going, so please donate or encourage someone who can donate!!!!
Sis Bates

AUPE Blood Donors Needed Before November 14

EDMONTON—AUPE asks its members along with their friends and family members to step forward and give blood during the AUPE Blood Drive, which runs until November 14.

Our goal is to collect 200 blood donations. At the halfway mark of our blood drive, we've collected 96 donations! Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Although we're almost halfway there, we need more help to reach our goal. Book your appointment today to donate before November 14!

Every donation will help up to three hospital patients, including people like Deanna, the daughter of an AUPE member who needed blood recently. Read Deanna's full story at the link below.

Our blood drive is happening at an important time for the blood system. Canadian Blood Services wants to ensure patient needs are met throughout this uncertain cold and flu season, which is why the organization asks blood donors to continue to give while they are feeling well.

Giving blood should remain a priority for all who are healthy. Individuals who get a seasonal or H1N1 flu shot can still give blood provided they wait two days after the shot before donating.

For everyone who says they will give blood someday – someday is today. There is a particular need for blood donors at:

  • Calgary Blood Donor Clinic (737 – 13 Ave SW): 8 – 9 am every weekday, and on Remembrance Day (8 am – 1 pm)

  • Edmonton Blood Donor Clinic (8249 – 114 Street): various hours every Monday – Saturday, including Remembrance Day (9 am – 1 pm and 3:30 – 7:30 pm)

  • Lethbridge Blood Donor Clinic (Second Level, Lethbridge Centre): Tuesday – Saturday, hours vary

  • Red Deer Blood Donor Clinic (#5, 5020 – 68 Street): various hours every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Remembrance Day (1 – 7 pm)

Call 1 888 2 DONATE (1 888 236-6283) today or visit the Canadian Blood Services website to find a clinic near you, to confirm clinic hours and to book your donation appointment. Please encourage your co-workers, friends and family members to join you. Remember to sign the AUPE Binder when you donate so that your life-saving donation counts toward our goal!
