DOVE Award nomination deadline is Feb. 11

EDMONTON – AUPE’s Women’s Committee is encouraging members to nominate worthy activists now for the 2011 DOVE Award. The annual award, created by a resolution of the AUPE Convention in 2001, honours female members who have made major contributions to the betterment of women and all members of the union.

The Women’s Committee will close nominations on Friday, Feb. 11. The Dove Award – the initials standing for Day of Validation and Equity – will be presented on March 8, International Women’s Day.

Any woman who is a former or current member of AUPE may be nominated for the award. Written nominations should be approximately 150 words in length, and video presentations are also acceptable. The nomination should outline the nominee’s contribution to the betterment of woman in AUPE.

A nomination may be submitted by any member or group of members. While nominations do not have to be passed by an AUPE local council, the committee encourages consultation with local councils.

Members can look around their own worksites to find women whose union work makes a real difference for their co-workers.

Each DOVE Award recipient receives an etched crystal memento, and her name is engraved on a commemorative plaque permanently displayed at AUPE Headquarters in Edmonton.

The nomination form can be accessed via the icon on the right hand side of the AUPE home page or at the link below.
