Anti Priv Rally

On Monday Sept 21st, the Local 54 Anti-Privatization Committee has
planned to hit the streets of Fort Saskatchewan. The plan is to
leaflet the community for the Sept 25th Rally at Stelmach's office,
hand out the Save Alberta Hospital Brochure and collect signatures on
the petitions.

If you wish to participate ( we need volunteers) the plan is to meet
in the west corner of the Wal-Mart Parking lot. We will break off into
groups to cover as much area as we can from 6pm to 9pm. Please respond
if you plan to volunteer, so we can better prepare the needed
material. Your response can be directed to Deanna Adams at
adamsian59@yahoo.ca or Rose Harrish
rose.harrish@albertahealthserivces.ca

Please bring any completed petitions, and we can forward them on.

See you Monday night!

Thanks,

Anti-Privatization Committee

Guest Speaker: Carol Wodak - Eldercare activist and researcher

Healthcare in Alberta is undergoing yet another government induced
upheaval. In its wake, seniors, among others, will be affected.
Changes to pharmaceutical coverage and cuts to long-term care will
have serious consequences on seniors care now and into the future.

Carol Wodak, working for the Alberta Human Rights Commission starting
as investigations officer and culminating as Director of the Edmonton
office, has intimate knowledge and insights regarding eldercare.

"The reality of inadequate and delayed care - which both failed to
prevent and caused harm - added a new dimension to the trauma of
end-of-life disability and illness." Carol states. " Many families
who have been through this will simply try to forget it if they can,
or accept what they think they cannot change."

For Carol, it became a challenge to understand, and a mission to
change a system gone so terribly wrong.
